I agree that in a well-structured (free!) society a much higher degree of trust would be standard.
It's hard for alternative trust systems to emerge when the traditional legal system is so far-reaching and interwoven, but my hope is that great finance rails, betting markets, and private attestations (zk-certs) lead to some successful experiments.
